Digital assets are clean by default. That is useful, and it is also why so much of what lands in a timeline looks like it came from nowhere. 

Passing the catalog through a CRT gives every file a physical origin. Glass, phosphor, a signal that had to travel. It is the same idea behind the whole system: assets that look like they belong together because they were made to.
